explore north carolina - dupont forest

Meet Team Verhaaren – Your OP15 Adventure Addicts exploring North Carolina! The Verhaaren family picked-up their OP15 from the dealership on Tuesday & hit the road on Wednesday to explore the mountain bike trails and camp in DuPont Forest near Brevard, NC.

Mike, Arielle, and their two kids, Alta & Max, share some can’t miss pics and highlights from their recent exploration on the east coast. “Our first trip in the 15 was great, we are both from Utah and we normally go west every summer, but because of COVID we decided to explore some places along the east coast that we aren’t familiar with. DuPont/Pisgah forests are pretty infamous for mountain bike trails so it was at the top of the list and didn’t disappoint. We did miles of riding and hiking and enjoyed swimming in the creek next to where we dropped camp.” – Arielle

This family was born for the OP15. An active duty Army sergeant and black hawk crew chief, Mike’s favorite feature “other than the badass appearance and off-road capabilities” are the windows and fresh air ventilation so you still really feel like you’re sleeping under the stars. Arielle’s favorite OP15 feature (aside from its name… which coincidentally matches her chosen career number during her professional BMX race career – #15) is the slide-out outdoor kitchen: “With a baby and a busy 6-year-old, I didn’t like the idea of having to cook inside a trailer worrying about them getting burned or making a mess.”

“We came home for a few days to take care of some work but will be heading back out with the camper next week to Asheville, NC for more exploring.”

Thank you for sharing your first adventure with us! We can’t wait to see more adventures from #15 in the OP15! Arielle Martin-Verhaaren

“We ordered the OP15 in late May and have been anxiously anticipating its arrival! My husband and I are adventurers at heart and after touring Iceland in a camper van in 2018, we saw the benefits of having more than a tent over our heads, especially with kids. We spent some time looking at van options and outfitting a sprinter but didn’t love the idea of having to pack-up camp every time we wanted to shuttle to the trails or when we wanted to explore outside our campsite radius. We also really wanted something that was off-road capable because our ideal camping isn’t an RV site with hookups and my husband was interested in finding something with solar.”
