Highights & Tips

Trip Details:

The Cardin family spent their first Alaskan summer exploring the Southcentral region of Alaska with their Opus Camper. The OP4 made the perfect basecamp for the family of 4 and their 2 dogs. It provided the right balance of comfort, mobility and durability needed for their lifestyle.

“Homer offers world class ocean fishing and is known as having the best Halibut fishing on earth. Being able to access and camp on secluded beaches off the Cook Inlet gives unrivaled access to Homer but helps escape the crowds and intimate wildlife viewing and secluded shore fishing.”

4WD is must, beach conditions are variable and winter storm surge tends to soften the sand. Recommend multi-species charters for Halibut, Rock fish, Cod, and Salmon.

Seward also offers excellent ocean fishing. Camping along the Resurrection River offers stunning scenery a good privacy. 4WD is not required depending how far into the river valley you want to venture.

Seward also has fantastic tours of Kenai Fjords National Park which is highlighted by massive glaciers and marine life encounters.”

The village of Cooper Landing offers access to world-Class river fishing at the Russian and Kenai Rivers as well as excellent trout fishing in the many secluded lakes.

Isolated camping on Kenai lake is possible if you know where to look. Recommend 4WD, as the pebble beaches can get very soft depending on water levels from snowmelt and rain can make the tight and somewhat steep access trails sketchy.

“Hope offers the quintessential Alaskan Village vibe. The creek west of the hamlet has salmon runs and remote camping can be found the mountains to the south.

Amazing views of Turnagain Arm and vistas of the Kenai Mountains. Amazing opportunities for wildlife encounters and hiking with some mining history are all around.

The Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center is a great place to visit and experience native land mammals and birds.  The refuge for sick, wounded and orphaned animals is located at the tip of the Turnagain Arm off Seward highway
